A Diverse Night at the Oscars; From Dominant “Oppenheimer” to “The Holdovers”

Hollywood’s biggest night celebrated a global tapestry of stories on Sunday. Christopher Nolan’s biopic “Oppenheimer” dominated the awards, taking home seven awards including Best Actor for Cillian Murphy, Best Director, Best Picture, and several other “best”s.

However, the night wasn’t just about established names. Indie darling “Poor Things” snagged four awards, including Best Actress for Emma Stone.

Da’Vine Joy Randolph’s win for Best Supporting Actress in “The Holdovers” highlighted the ceremony’s focus on diverse narratives.

The evening wasn’t without a touch of pop culture. Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell took home their second Oscar for Best Original Song, this time for the summer smash hit “What Was I Made For?” from the critically acclaimed live-action “Barbie” film.

The documentary “20 Days in Mariupol,” shedding light on the war in Ukraine, was recognized with the Best Documentary award, showcasing the Oscars’ commitment to diverse storytelling.

One of the unusual moments from the ceremony was actor and wrestler, John Cena’s unexpected naked appearance on stage to present the Academy Award for Best Costume Design.
