Multiple Attacks Rock Pakistan: Chinese Engineers Killed, Clashes in Balochistan

A suicide attack targeted a convoy of Chinese engineers in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa state, resulting in the deaths of six individuals, including five Chinese citizens. The attack occurred around 1:00 PM as the engineers were traveling to the Dasu hydroelectric dam project. The suicide attacker crashed his vehicle full of explosives into the bus carrying the engineers. The bus exploded, plunged into a valley, and caught fire, leaving the victims unrecognizable; as officials stated to local media.

The Chinese Embassy in Pakistan has condemned the attack and demanded an investigation. The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has urged Pakistani authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice. China has also asked for increased security measures to protect Chinese citizens working in Pakistan.

This incident is not the first targeting Chinese engineers at the dam project. In July 2021, nine Chinese engineers were among thirteen killed in a similar attack. Two suspects involved in that incident were sentenced to death in November 2022.

Although no group has claimed responsibility for today’s attack, past incidents have been linked to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.

Separately, a group assault has occurred on a Pakistani naval forces airbase in Balochistan. According to local security officials, the attack has been repelled; leaving 5 deaths including four attackers and one security force.
